THE CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL IS FABULOUS

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the lady of the spaniel world. They are nothing but sweet, docile animals. They make wonderful family pets and love to be around people and children. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will do anything to please its owner! Because of their relative small size, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will fit into a city or farm environment just fine, as long as they have human companionship. They are very intelligent and very easy to train. They have those characteristic dark brown eyes that will make anyone melt for them! They do have a relatively long coat and need frequent grooming.

SOME MEDICAL PROBLEMS

All spaniels produce a tremendous amount of ear wax hence attention must be given to frequent ear cleaning with an appropriate astringent/drying agent. I have treated plenty of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs over time and a huge percentage of them develop congestive heart failure which is usually caused by a failure in the mitral valve; one of the 4 heart valves seen in all mammals; including humans. This indicates that there is a congenital basis for this disease. They are born with it, picking it up from its parents or generations before it. When you go shopping for a Cavalier ask the breeder if they have had breeding dogs with this issue. Outside of that, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the most lovable dogs alive. All they want, is to please their masters and get plenty of love in return.
